      Statement of Significance

This building-complex is one of the rare and most important historical building complexes ever to be found in Potchefstroom. This mission station was established in 1872 by Pastor CW Moschutz of the Berlin Mission Society and presently creates the most impressive piece of work within its environment in Potchefstroom. The church building which was erected during 1875-1877, remains the only one in Potchefstroom that forms part of a historical complex. The architectural style of the church building denotes the typical Gothic Renaissance building style of the past. The school building's architectural style, which is also part of the complex epitomizes the previous century's Karoo building style. The significance of the school building is derived from the fact that it is the only school building that still remains standing in Potchefstroom from the previous century. Besides the mission complex's architectural and historical merits, the complex carries with it a religious significance due to its association with the Berlin Mission Society.
