      Statement of Significance

      JEAN LOUIS PROSPER LEMUE OF THE PARIS EVANGELICAL MISSIONARY , SOCIETY AND HIS WIFE, LOUIS ELENORE , WERE LAID TO REST IN THE CRYPT IN THIS CEMETERY. LEMUE WAS IN CHARGE OF THE CARMEL MISSION FROM 1847 UNTIL HIS DEATH IN 1870. AFTER THE DEMISE OF MRS. LEMUE IN NOVEMBER 1873 THE MISSION ACTIVITIES AT CARMEL CAME TO AN END.
