Quarry exploited sandstone of the Peninsula Formation between 1901 and 1910 mainly for construction of the East Dockyard and also used for building/kerbstones in Simon's Town. The stone blocks were transported down from the quarry by an inclined railway and a plaque describing this is present in Runciman Drive
