When Jekins was stationed at Buntingville (now old bunting) a strong bond of friendship existed between him and chief Faku.There came a time when Faku made plans to leave Buntingville and return to his own territory east of the Umzimvubu river and to take with him his friend Jekins as a representative of the gospel, for he intended to set up a new station. The friendship lasted for some thirty years and resulted in important consequences of missions at Palmerton and eMfundisweni, from which grew the Ludeke mission. Chief Faku was desirous that his people should receive glory power, divine salvation and that education, which so builds a man as to give him character and wisdom. However ,whatever motives underlay Faku's friendship and patronage the gospel had free course among his people in Eastern Pondoland. Chief Faku never professed christianity but he used to say "there were only two good men in the country- Jekins and himself) Rev.S. Palmer, deputy chairman to Rev.William Shaw in the Eastern section was requested to choose a suitable situation for the mission. This he did and chief Faku acquiesced, an area not far from Qawukeni where he was establishing his great place.Purpose:
