Portrait of Hilda Purwitsky, seated, wearing a red jacket, with her left hand raised behind her head; signed and dated top left: Irma Stern 1932; framed.
In terms of her Will Irma Stern bequeathed her entire collection to the Trustees of the Irma Stern Trust. The Trustees were instructed to make a core selection from her artworks and personal collection and to arrange for this collection to be housed and displayed. After her death in 1966 the first trustee, Professor J du P Scholtz, selected the Irma Stern Trust Collection which is housed in the Irma Stern Museum. Since the museum opened to the public in 1972 the collection has increased through donations, bequests, loans and purchases of Irma Stern’s work. This portrait was bequeathed to the museum by Hilda Purwitsky in 1999.
