Statement of Significance
This piece of land, which is owned by the O'okiep Copper Company Limited, contains a mine shaft sunk by Commander Simon van der Stel on an expedition to the Copper Mountains in 1685.
The date, and most likely the other inscriptions, on the nearby rocks are of the same period.
