      Statement of Significance

      This double-storeyed building, which is predominantly in the Georgian style, was erected in 1835 by Thomas Plewman. He was an Iris Settler who emigrated in 1820 to South Africa on the ship Chapman.

      The so-called Coniston House together with three (3) metres of land on both sides, as well as the rear of the building, including the area of land in front of the house as far as the erf boundary, situated on the following erven:
      (a) Certain piece of land situate in the Municipality and division of Colesberg, being Erf 153, Colesberg; and
      (b) Certain piece of land, situate as above, being Erf 152, Colesberg.
