      Statement of Significance

      The old Dutch Reformed Mission Station, which was known as Olyvenhoutsdrift, was founded in 1873 by the Rev. Christiaan Schröder. The mission church and the old Schröder parsonage date from 1875 and 1883 respectively. This complex is now a museum.

      The properties, inclusive of the old mission church and clocktower (1875), the old Schroder parsonage (1883) and the school (1947) thereon, but excluding that portion of Erf 2139, in extent 1 676 square metres, which serves as parking area, described as follows:
      (i) Certain land called Park Reserve, situate in the Township of Upington, Division of Gordonia (now known as Erf 2138, Upington), in extent eight thousand and fifty (8 050) square metres.
      Deed of Transfer 176/1926, dated 25 June 1926.
      (ii) The remainder of Lot UMC, situate in the Municipality of Upington, Division of Gordonia (now known as Erf 2139, Upington), in extent nine thousand seven hundred and thirty (9 730) square metres.
      Deed of Transfer 43/1947, dated 18 November 1947 (endorsement p. 1).
      (iii) Certain Erf 2144, Upington (formerly Dry Erf 37), situate in the Municipality of Upington, Division of Gordonia, in extent five thousand six hundred and thirty-eight (5 638) square metres.
