Statement of Significance

These buildings, with their Georgian Karoo style and Victorian features, which date mainly from the nineteenth century, form an integral part of the historical and architectural core of Graaff-Reinet, which was founded in 1785.

The old library building known as the Reinet Museum, situated on the following erven:
Erf 1503, Graaff-Reinet, situate in the Municipality and Division of Graaff-Reinet, in extent 695 (six hundred and ninety-five) square metres;
Erf 1504, Graaff-Reinet, situated as above, in extent 128 (one hundred and twenty-eight) square metres; and
Erf 1502, Graaff-Reinet, situated as above, in extent 23 (twenty-three) square metres.
Deed of Transfer T32277/1984, dated 22 June 1984.
