      Statement of Significance

The Market Square was the centre around which the city of Kimberley grew. It was the scene of many important events in the history of this city, and of South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The City Hall was designed by F C Rogers in the neo-classical style and was completed in September 1899. Together with the Market Square, it forms an important historical and architectural group.
