      Statement of Significance

      The original building of the Kimberley Club, which was founded in 1881, burnt down in 1886, as did its replacement in 1895. The present building, designed by the architect D W Greatbatch, was completed in 1896. It was extended in 1919 by the architect William Timlin.
      The Kimberley Club was used by many celebrated civic and military dignataries during their visits to Kimberley, including Cecil John Rhodes, Sir J B Robinson, Sir Ernest Oppenheimer, Lord H H Kitchener, General J D P French and field Marshall Viscount B L Montgomery.
      The Club has been honoured with visits from the royal Family, including the Duke of Connought (1906), the Prince of Wales (1925), Prince George (later Duke of Kent) (1934), King George VI, Queen Elizabeth and Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret (1947).

      (d) Certain piece or portion of perpetual quitrent land, situate in Block E of the Township of Kimberley, being Lot 306 (now known as Erf 10521), in extent 22 square roods and 62 square feet.
      (e) Certain piece or portion of perpetual quitrent land, situate in Block E of the Township of Kimberley, being Lot 327 (now known as Erf 10522), in extent 9 square roods and 15 square feet.
      (f) Certain piece of perpetual quitrent land, situate in Block E, Du Toitspan Road, Kimberley, being Lot 15 (now known as Erf 10524), in extent 19 square roods and 85 square feet.
      (g) Certain piece or parcel of perpetual quitrent land, being Lot 30 (now known as Erf 10526), situate in Block E, in the Township of Kimberley, in extent 11 square roods and 4 square feet.
      (h) Certain piece or portion of perpetual quitrent land, being Lot 13 (now known as Erf 10527), situate in Block E, in the Township of Kimberley, in extent 27 square roods and 13 square feet.
      (i) Certain piece or portion of perpetual quitrent land, being Lot 60 E (now known as Erf 10671), situate in the Township of Kimberley, in extent 12 square roods and 131,41 square feet.
      (j) Certain piece or parcel of perpetual quitrent land, being Lot 31 (now known as Erf 10672), situate in the Township of Kimberley, in extent 16 square roods and 17 square feet.
