This building, designed by th architect D W Greatbatch, was erected in 1897 as a recuperative hotel and was known as the Kimberley Sanatorium. In 1908 De Beers Consolidated Mines changed the name to Belgrave Hotel and it served as a luxury hotel until 1931. From 1933 to 1971 the building was used as a Catholic school. It was then transferred to the McGregor Museum for museum purposes.
