It was unveiled by four mothers (of which two are unknown) who had each lost either a husband or a son, or two sons, during the war. What is known thus far is Catherine Anderson and Katie Solomon are two of the four mothers who unveiled the cenotaph. It is believed, but not proven, that Ethel Annie Pickering who lost both her son's in the War is another of the four. Then councillor Henry Schmidst, mayor of Kimberley was chairperson of the War Memorial and Colonel T. Ormiston gave the unveiling address. The following reverends played a part in the service: Rev William Pescod, Rev WH Kinsey and Rev JR Albertyn.
