      Statement of Significance

      The corner-stone of Sutton House was laid on 6 September 1877 by the Governor of the Cape Colony, Sir Henry Bartle Frere. The builidng was officailly opened on 17 December 1878 and named after the Rev. J G Sutton, Headmaster of Dale College from 1890 to 1912.
