      Statement of Significance

Attaqua's Kloof is named after the tribe of Khoi living in the vicinity when the pass was traversed in 1689 by Ensign Isaac Schrijver and his party from the Cape. It is the oldest pass in the Langeberg and Outeniqua Mountain ranges of the Southern Cape, and served as the highway to the Karoo and Eastern Cape until about 1870.
