Statement of Significance
This old smoke stack, which dates from 1880, was erected by the then Cape Copper Company to provide energy to the nearby pumping engine so as to pump water from the mine shafts. In 1952 it was declared a monument in memory of the pioneer copper miners in Namaqualand.
