Statement of Significance
Modelled on a Venetian campanile, this tower was built to commemorate the arrival of the 1820 Settlers.

The so-called Campanile, situate on a certain piece of unregistered Municipal land in the City of Port Elizabeth, now described as Erf 4457, Port Elizabeth Central, situate in the Municipality and Administrative District of Port Elizabeth, Province of the Cape of Good Hope, in extent 49 (forty-nine) sqaure metres, as detailed by the figure A B C D on survey diagram SG 7092-87, dated 28 March 1988, filed in the office of the Surveyor-General in Cape Town and on file 3/K/PORT E/23 in the office of the National Monuments Council in Cape Town.
