The core of this dwelling-house, which is predominantly in the Georgian style, presumably formed part of the original homestead of the old experimental farm of Lord Charles Somerset that was subdivided in 1825 and that formed the basis of present Somerset East. The house is one of the oldest buildings in the area.

The historic Georgian dwelling-house, together with a piece of surrounding land consisting of that portion of the erf concerned extending to a depth of 60 metres from the Paulet Street boundary, situate on certain land, being Erf 105 Somerset East, in the Municipality and Division of Somerset East, in extent three hundred and fifty (350) square roods seventy-two (72) square feet.
