      Statement of Significance

This barn is a reconstruction, to its 1850s appearance, of one of the oldest surviving buildings in Stellenbosch: a rare long out building dating from the 1730s. The barn has been used as a coachhouse and stables, storage area and human habitation. The reconstruction incorporates as much original fabric as it was possible to save. The barn relates to the historic Krommerivier complex, including a house of 1831 and wine cellar of 1771.
