This predominantly Cape Dutch homestead was erected in 1814 by Colonel Jacob Glen Cuyler, Landdrost of Uitenhage. Colonel Cuyler was closely associated with the settlement of the British Settlers of 1820.

The property known as Cuyler Manor with the historic buildings and structures thereon, being approximately seven hectares of land situate on farm 320/1. District of Uitenhage, and bounded on the northern side by TR 15/1, on the southern and western sides by the land appropriated by the South African Railways for Railway Workshops and on the eastern side by a line running parallel to the western boundary of farm 320/1 at a distance of 260 metres east thereof, as shown on diagram 2052 1B which is filed in the offices of the Municipality of Uitenhage and the National Monuments Council.
