Statement of Significance

This corbelled house is an example of the ingenuity of the earliest white inhabitants in this area and are important relics of the cultural and national architectural history in South Africa.

Declaration Description

Certain historical monument site with the building thereon, on the Remainder of the farm Grootfontein 122 situate in the Administrative District of Fraserburg, Province of the Cape of Good Hope, measuring 4,391 square feet (as shown on Diagram for proclamation purposes 1041/68 surveyed in December 1967 by surveyor F. Kidd), being still an unregistered subdivision of the property, certain piece of abolished quitrent land being the remainder of the farm Grootfontein 122 situate in the division of Fraserburg, measuring (as such) 4,490.5713 morgen; registration duplicate of Deed of Transfer 17612/1962 (dated 21 November 1962).
