      Statement of Significance

This residence, with its interesting mixture of Cape Dutch and neo-classical features, was rebuilt by Sir Herbert Baker for the use of poets and artists on the instructions of Cecil John Rhodes. Rudyard Kipling and his family stayed here during the summer months from 1900 to 1907.
