      Statement of Significance

Radiocarbon dates indicate that this Early Farmer site dates from about A.D. 480, which makes it one of the earliest known dwelling-places of food producers south of the Limpopo. A great number of hut floors, iron-smelting furnaces and artefacts have been exposed.
