The cornerstone of this church building, which was designed in the style of the seventeenth-century Dutch Renaissance, was laid on 10 October 1896 by the State President S. J. P. Kruger. On 25 December 1897 the building was taken into use with an inaugural speech by Prof. J. Lion Cachet. As a member of the parish, President Kruger visited this church regularly. 10/2/707._x000D_
