This trunk is all that remains of the Syringa tree under which the Reformed Kerk was founded in South Africa on the 10th February 1859 with 311 members, the gathering had to be held here because the church building was not available.The first Minister was Rev. D.Postma.S.J.P.Kruger later president of the South African Republic, participated in this important historical monuments commission.
