      Statement of Significance

      The cornerstone of this impressive sandstone church building, which was designed by the Revd. J. D. Kestell, was laid by President M. T. Steyn on 12 April 1910. The church was inaugurated on 18 February 1911.The Basuto War (1865-66) Memorial was erected in memory of two Europeans and one Hottentot who died during one of the attacks. The inscription reads "De Slag van Bethlehem, 22 Januarie 1866".
