This fort was built during the Zulu War of 1879 by the forces under the command of Col. Pearson.

A fort situated on the Fort KwaMondi site on Eshowe Mission Station and remainder of reserve 17, 78638 situate in the district of Zululand, measuring 3,2443 acres (diagram SG1102/1967 dated May 1967, surveyed by surveyor I.K. Dunbar in February 1967.)
History: Earthwork fort constructed around the abandoned Norwegian Mission by British Army troops under Colonel Pearson in 1879, beseiged by Zulu army from 24 January 1879to 2 April 1879. A number of graves of a few British soldiers as well as several unknown graves; severallater cemeterarieshave developed adjacent to fort.
