    Louis-Napoléon, was the only child of Napoleon III,Emperor of Frence and Empress Eugenie He was born in 1856 march 16 and died in 1875 June 1st at the age of 23 The only reason he was allowed to participate during the Zulu was was because of the pleading of his Mother the Empress Eugénie, and by intervention of Queen Victoria herself The Prince had also prefered to be killed by a assegai then a bullet as he believed this will show he was in close quarters with his enemy. Troopers Abel and Rogers were also killed in this engagement It is said, the glade of trees that are around the monument were planted by his motherPurpose:

    The monument was erected on the orders of queen Victoria. The reason why this momument was erected was because Prince Louis Napoleon of France was killed on that spot during a surprise attack by a party of Zulus while he had been patrolling during the Zulu war of 1879
