Description
Taung is located in the Northwest province and has been known as a fossil bearing site since before Dart discovered the Taung Child (Australopithecus Africanus) amongst fossils sent from the Buxton Limeworks in 1925 (Dart, 1925). The site of Taung has seen numerous researchers since Dart, from hrdlicka, Broom, Peabody, Butzer, and Patridge to the most recent work by Tobias and Mckee from 1987 to 1994. While no other hominid remains have been discovered, the site has produced some unique primate remains (McKee 1993a)
