The light in the monument is damaged and no longer working. There are no toilets. There is no tap for running water. The monument is maitained and controlled by the local volunteers who stay near by with the leadership of Simon knaus 06339888902. The monument yard have dangerous side where a pull of water is deep and can couse danger to visitors, that area needs to be closed for safety. The purpose of the Memorial and Monument of Thokoza is to honour and cherish the people who lost thier lives or went missing during the political Conflict that engulfed Thokoza and the surrounding areas before and after the first democratic elections in 1994.

The access to the Memorial and Monument is controlled at the gate by the local volunteer security of eight members. available 24/7. The gates are always locked only open for the staff and visitors.
